Lab Work

We received news that we would get access to a laboratory on campus tomorrow, so the biologists and chemists on our team had a meeting to write up lab protocols for the week.

We came up with a rough order of experiments:

  1. Gibson assembly to make plasmid constructs
  2. Transformation of single genes into E. coli
  3. Measure enzyme expression in bacteria using Western blotting technique
  4. Purification of his-tagged enzymes from bacteria
  5. Conduct enzyme kinetics experiments
  6. Transformation of multiple combinations of genes into E. coli:
combinations of carps, carbonic anhydrases and ureases we were planning to transform into E coli
  7. Repeat steps 3-5 for newly-transformed bacteria.
  8. Co culture experiments

Science Communication and Outreach

We published an infographic about science communication and its importance to our project, and introduced our upcoming educational videos in the process.
